GLAY Pilgrimage Guide: Hakodate Concert Venues, Costume Exhibits & 'White Road' Filming Spots
From Aundo Hall—where rock band GLAY honed their live performances during high school—to Kanemori Hall where they returned on their first national tour and the harbor island of Midori no Shima, Hakodate preserves both the band's starting points and the stages of their homecoming concerts.
Today in Hakodate, visitors can view stage costumes and instruments at two official shops, track down eight commemorative manhole displays across the city, and dine looking out at the harbor inside Cafeteria Maurie where the 'White Road' music video was filmed.

1G4 Space: Official Shop Exhibiting Stage Instruments and Costumes
Opened on July 20, 2011 in partnership with local retailer SODAPOP as a welcoming hometown base where fans visiting Hakodate can always drop by, G4 Space is GLAY's official shop displaying stage instruments and concert costumes alongside store-exclusive merchandise; located at 6-18 Matsukazecho, the shop operates from 11:00 to 20:00 (closed every Tuesday and the 3rd Monday of each month).
Displayed inside the shop or in the showcase window to the left of the front entrance is a commemorative manhole cover illustrated by One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda depicting all four members of GLAY together—one of five special designs created for the band's 30th debut anniversary and scheduled to remain on display in Hakodate through November 2029.

3Aundo Hall: The Live House Where GLAY Played Repeatedly in Their Amateur Days
Located in Matsukazecho, Aundo Hall is the live house where GLAY performed repeatedly during their amateur high school years in Hakodate, and handwritten autographs left by the members during that era still remain on the walls of the former backstage dressing room.
Because the former dressing room is currently used as a storage room, visitors wishing to see the band's autographs should first order food or drinks in the cafe-bar and ask a staff member to guide them; located at 8-6 Matsukazecho, the bar-cafe is open from 19:00 to 24:00 (closed Wednesdays and the 3rd Tuesday; on concert nights, entry follows individual event ticket rules).

Floating inside Hakodate Port, the artificial island of Midori no Shima hosted GLAY's two-day homecoming outdoor concerts on July 27–28, 2013 and August 25–26, 2018, where the central lawn plaza where the stage stood looks out across Mount Hakodate, the red-brick warehouses, and ships in the harbor.
Located at 15 Omachi, the island is open to the public from 9:00 to 20:00 (April–September) and 9:00 to 17:00 (October–March; closed January 1–3); after crossing the bridge onto the island, turn right toward the yacht harbor clock to find bassist JIRO's solo manhole cover installed in the pavement (outdoor street installation is suspended during the winter snow season).

6Hakodate Arena: Venue of the Inaugural Concerts and Lobby Commemorative Display

In the display space to the right just inside the main entrance lobby stands an indoor full-band manhole cover, at one of the civic venues where all four members were photographed for the official book GLAY Walker 2018 Hakodate.
Located at 1-32-2 Yunokawacho, the arena building is open from 9:00 to 22:00 (closed December 31–January 3), allowing visitors to view the manhole display inside the entrance lobby while admission to the main arena floor and seating follows individual event schedules.

Inside the front entrance to the left rear beside the staircase stands an indoor full-band manhole cover display; located at 4-19 Suehirocho, the center is open daily from 9:00 to 21:00 (closed December 31–January 3).

Located inside the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse district, Kanemori Hall is the venue where GLAY competed in local band contests during their Hakodate days and where they returned on October 17, 1994 during their first national tour in the year of their major debut; because the hall operates today as a rental event space, regular visits are limited to viewing the exterior.
From the harborfront promenade outside the red-brick warehouses around Kanemori Hall, visitors can also look directly across the water toward Midori no Shima.

12Cafeteria Maurie: The Harborfront Cafe Where ‘White Road’ Was Filmed
Located in Funamicho, Cafeteria Maurie is the harborfront cafe where scenes for the 'White Road' promotional music video were filmed; visitors can enjoy homemade piroshki and Russian tea beside the windows overlooking the port and browse the message notebooks left by visiting fans.
Located at 23-1 Funamicho, the cafe operates from 11:00 to 18:00 (last order 17:00) and is closed Mondays, Tuesdays, at year-end, throughout January and February, and on occasional irregular holidays, so check current operating notices before visiting.

13Anama Beach: The Rocky Coastline of TERU’s Youth Memories
Located in Irifunecho about a 15-minute walk from the Funamicho bus stop, Anama Beach is a quiet rocky shoreline tied to vocalist TERU's memories of growing up in Hakodate, offering open sunset views across the sea.
Because the coastal cliffside beyond the iron safety fence at the far end of the beach is strictly off-limits due to the danger of rockfalls, visitors enjoy the seaside views from the public area in front of the fence.

Music Videos Filmed in Hakodate and Songs Performed on Midori no Shima
‘White Road’: A Ballad Layering a Snowy Hometown Winter Over Life’s Journey
Released on December 8, 2004 as GLAY's 32nd single, 'White Road' is a winter ballad layering the snow-covered streets of their hometown over life's journey, with its music video filmed on location at Nishi Wharf and Cafeteria Maurie in Hakodate.
Directed by filmmaker Tetsuo Shinohara, the music video weaves together scenes inside the cafe and band performance footage shot atop the roof of the former Hokkai Can Hakodate Factory at Nishi Wharf overlooking the port—preserving on film a historic factory building that has since been demolished.

‘Eternally’: Theme Song of the 2013 Concerts and Official Hakodate Support Song
Written as both the theme song for the July 2013 Midori no Shima outdoor concerts and an official Hakodate support song, 'Eternally' was released on a three-track single on July 24, 2013 immediately before the performances.
Around the concert dates, 'Eternally' played as background music inside the Mount Hakodate Ropeway, Goryokaku Tower, JR Hakodate Station, and Hakodate City Hall, welcoming visitors across both transport hubs and sightseeing facilities with the same song.

From the Torrential Rain of 2013 to the 2018 Return to Midori no Shima
After torrential rain poured down on the second night of their July 2013 Midori no Shima concert, the band members held onto the wish to stage another concert at the same venue—returning to Midori no Shima on August 25–26, 2018 for a two-day outdoor concert held in partnership with the 150th anniversary of the naming of Hokkaido.
Performing signature songs such as 'HOWEVER' and 'Yuwaku' on the first day and 'Kimi ga Mitsumeta Umi' and 'Winter, again' on the second day, GLAY once again turned the harbor island overlooking Mount Hakodate and the sea into a two-day open-air concert venue.
Released on DVD and Blu-ray the following year in 2019, the 2018 Midori no Shima outdoor concert can be seen in the official 60-second TV spot below.

Opening Hakodate Arena with an All-Singles Setlist
For the July 25–26, 2015 inaugural concerts opening Hakodate Arena, bassist JIRO built an all-singles setlist concept designed to welcome both local Hakodate residents attending their very first concert and devoted fans traveling from across Japan.
By pairing widely known hit singles with rarer single tracks seldom performed at regular concerts, the band celebrated the opening of Hakodate's new civic arena with a setlist reaching both local first-timers and longtime concertgoers.

The Hokkaido Shinkansen and ‘Supernova Express 2017’
Written and composed by TAKURO as the official image song celebrating the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen bullet train, 'Supernova Express 2017' was also featured on arena tours with large-screen video staging tracing the history leading up to the line's launch.
Following 'White Road' filmed in Hakodate and the hometown concert theme 'Eternally,' the song welcoming new rail access to Hokkaido reflects TAKURO's words that the landscapes where the four members grew up remain an essential part of his songwriting.

Citywide Streetcar and Station Tie-Ins Around the 2018 Concerts
When GLAY returned to Midori no Shima in August 2018, related events expanded outside the concert venue from August 23 to 27 across G4 CAFE, G4 Space, Blocks B and C of Hakodate Green Plaza, and Midori no Shima.
During that week, G4 CAFE screened a special movie and G4 Space displayed stage costumes, signed posters, and merchandise, while Hakodate City Tram operated a concert-wrapped streetcar with commemorative day passes and JR Hokkaido ran special limited express trains alongside station displays at Hakodate Station.

Lab Note | From a Business Perspective: Turning Concert Memories into Year-Round Exhibits
Alongside major concert venues, Hakodate preserves amateur-era autographs, official shop costume displays, and eight commemorative manholes—supporting both concert-day crowds and everyday travel on non-concert dates.
Because the three indoor manhole displays remain open to visitors during the winter months when the five outdoor street covers are removed, presenting each manhole's design together with its indoor/outdoor location and seasonal schedule helps travelers choose spots open on the day of their visit.
